Rohey Njie is a dynamic, hardworking and a promising lady.
She was born in Banjul. She attended Campama Primary School
and from there proceeded to Crab Island, where she did her
Secondary Four leaving certificate. Subsequent to that she
attended Nusrat Senior Secondary School and did her O Levels
from Nusrat. Rohey went to the teaching field for one year
at Pakaliba Primary School.
After spending a year in the teaching profession, Rohey
attended a hotel training school for a period of two years,
where she studied catering, and after her training worked
with the Atlantic hotel as a Lada Chef for one year.
After working in the industry, Rohey now works at the Royal
Victoria Teaching Hospital as a catering officer, and the
president of Gamblood association. For today’s edition of
‘She She’, we had a little chat with her. Please read below:
She She:
why did you choose to be a catering officer?
Rohey: Since my childhood I have liked cooking. It was my
hobby. I really have interest in catering.
She She:
What are your aims and objectives?
Rohey: My aims are to see to it that every patient in this
hospital has good and quality services and also good health.
I also aim to do my job as expected of me, as a catering
officer, I will make sure any thing brought to the hospital
for its use, will be done accordingly.
She She:
As the president of Gamblood Association what do you aim for
the association?
Rohey: On that side I only hope and pray that blood is
always available in blood banks, so that anytime it is
needed, there will be no problem especially in emergency
cases. For example gynecology patients and children
suffering from malaria and other diseases and need blood,
wouldn’t be a problem.
She She:
Can you elaborate more on blood issues?
Rohey: Blood is very important in one’s life, so it is good
to have an association like such, as people should consider
it very much and contribute to it like coming out with full
force and donate blood because if you give blood, you safe
life.
She She:
can you tell us some of the constraints you face?
Rohey: Right now I don’t think I have so many constraints
because work is going smoothly, I have a cordially
relationship with my co workers. The only constraints I face
is time, because , the job is not easy at all, because I
used to come to the office around 8am and close by 5.30pm to
make sure that everything is done correctly.
She She:
what is interesting in the job?
Rohey: As I told you, I really like the job. I worked under
the chief matron and she always gave me advice, and I enjoy
working with my staff. Because we all work together as one.
She She:
As a married woman does the work affect your marriage life
in any way?
Rohey: Not al all, it doesn’t affect it, because my husband
has the understanding that the nature of my job needs a long
time in office.
She She:
Do you have any advice for the rest of women out there?
Rohey: Yes my advice is that every woman should try and do
something through which she can earn a better living.
Sitting down without engaging in anything will not take us
anywhere. At least every woman should do something useful,
because even petty trading can give money and can solve some
money and other problems As our husbands can’t do
everything, and the salaries also can’t do everything or
solve every problem, so let’s all be prepared to do
something for ourselves.
She She:
Thank you for granting me this interview.
Rohey: It’s my pleasure.
