Girls Platform Organises Leadership Training

A five-day
leadership training on the theme “Girls Leadership and MDGs”
organised by the Girls Platform of Youths with Vision kicked
off yesterday at Kuloro.
The
training, which brought together participants from across
Western Region, was mainly attended by girls.
Speaking to
Youth Forum, Fatumata Baldeh, the Program Officer for the
platform, noted that girls need capacity building to enable
them effectively address issues confronting them. The lives
of young girls, she said, are threatened by problems that
could best be addressed by girls themselves.
She
revealed that the platform was established to contribute in
bridging the gap that exists between girls and their male
folk. Girls, she observed, are victims of societal practices
as most of them continue to face unfavourable conditions.
Program
Officer Baldeh stated that the training would reflect the
state of girls in our society, problems confronting them and
what role girls can play in making a difference. In
addition, she added, leadership skills form part of the
training in order to equip them with skills to allow them to
better manage the affair of the group as they continue to
intensify their activities and widen the scope of the
coverage.
The Girls
Platform, she revealed, intended to reach every young girl
in the country as soon as possible. She added that the group
would endeavour to work with all institution that are
contributing to the advancement of girls and women in our
society.
The
training ends on Sunday, 1st April
2007.
