Girls Platform Organises Leadership Training
Fri
day 30th March 2007

By Bajen Camara

A five-day leadership training on the theme “Girls Leadership and MDGs” organised by the Girls Platform of Youths with Vision kicked off yesterday at Kuloro.

The training, which brought together participants from across Western Region, was mainly attended by girls.

Speaking to Youth Forum, Fatumata Baldeh, the Program Officer for the platform, noted that girls need capacity building to enable them effectively address issues confronting them. The lives of young girls, she said, are threatened by problems that could best be addressed by girls themselves.

She revealed that the platform was established to contribute in bridging the gap that exists between girls and their male folk. Girls, she observed, are victims of societal practices as most of them continue to face unfavourable conditions.

Program Officer Baldeh stated that the training would reflect the state of girls in our society, problems confronting them and what role girls can play in making a difference. In addition, she added, leadership skills form part of the training in order to equip them with skills to allow them to better manage the affair of the group as they continue to intensify their activities and widen the scope of the coverage.

The Girls Platform, she revealed, intended to reach every young girl in the country as soon as possible. She added that the group would endeavour to work with all institution that are contributing to the advancement of girls and women in our society.

The training ends on Sunday, 1st April 2007.
