Caps to Wed Sussie Baker Today
Friday 11th April 2008

Being appreciative of the love, loyalty and steadfastness of purpose which each has lavished on the other during a relationship that lasted for three solid years, Njobo Bah alias Caps and Sussie Baker will today tie themselves with a silvery chord in a sweet conjugal bond.

Entertainment can reveal that a number of invited guests will later today hightail it to the Kunta Kinteh Beach Bar on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to be part of the uniquely joyous occasion of the marriage of Sussie and Caps.

In a chat with Entertainment a few days ahead of the golden moment, Caps confessed that he’s appreciative of the love and loyalty that his wife-to-be has lavished on him regardless of the low ebbs and triumphant highs which are the standard fare of any enduring relationship.

For the charming, self-effacing and dignified  Sussie, her union with Caps is a coalition of soul partners. “ I feel that Caps is the perfect partner I can see. I liked him the first time that we met and we got to know about each other in just a week. I realised that he is a very nice man. When I returned to The Gambia for the second time, our relationship blossomed and for the third time, we decided to…

While we join the rest in supplicating Allah to beam his tender mercies and protection on the couple-to-be, we must find space to commend Kunta Kinteh Beach Bar boss, Ebrima Solomon Tamba as well as Viki for their generosity of spirit. Solomon arranged this interview whilst the picture above was hand-delivered to us by Viki; daughter of Sussie.

Pa Mboob Playing His Part
Friday 11th April 2008

Pa Mboob, a long time Gambian artist, is trying tooth and nail to demystify the myth that Gambians are never-doers when it comes to music.

Having started his music career in the late 70’s performing with various bands, Pa Mboob is now showing his skills and commitment at Queen’s Head in Kololi in a programme called African Night. The event, according to Pa Mboob, has that distinctive African touch and is serving as a platform for exhibition and nurturing of raw talents.

His music is laden with meaning and tackles issues such as politics and politicians, love, environment and the ills of society.

Meanwhile Queen’s Head, which has just gone under new management, have come up with a plethora of mouth-watering programmes such as the Monday Talk show, Thursday karaoke night, Big Friday Traditional Music, Saturday’s Jump with DJ Ludo & MC Principal from 4-8pm followed by Saturday Fever with DJ Spraga AKA Solid of Simplicity. On Sunday, there is a Family Matinee Film show on the menu with the gate free to the greater public.

Makhouredia Gueye Passes Away
Friday 11th April 2008

By Ousman Thiam

It was virtually all the Senegambian cultural actors and particularly the cinema and the drama personalities who have been mourning a charismatic figure of the Senegalese theatre.

Mamadou Gueye commonly known as Makhouredia Gueye sadly passed away this past Sunday at the Hospital General of Grand Yoff in Dakar at the age of 84 years.

With more than 50 years in the cinema and the Senegalese theatrical scenes, Makhouredia Gueye acted his most famous feuilletons on the national television with the troupe Daraay Kocc and also his successful telly films with his friend Omar Ba known as Bay Peulh in the 80’s. With Sembene Ousmane, he acted le mandat in1968, Xala in 1974 and Cedo in 1976. He also played a role in Hyena of Djibrile Diop Mame Bety.

Makhouredia Gueye was also a talented artist, saxophonist and trumpeter.

His death is deeply mourned and will undoubtedly have a real impact on the Senegambian cultural movement. The public are deeply regretting the loss of a comedian in all his noblesse and dignity as a social regulator.

Makhouredia used to tell his relatives: ‘I’m in this world to accompany you and I give you my person and when God’s last will comes, accompany me to Touba’.

He was consequently buried at the holy city of Touba the same day with prayers.
