Corruption! Corruption!
Tuesday 18th December 2007

No nation, no matter how endowed with natural resources or ideas, could  make any tangible or coherent progress in her developmental strides if it doesn’t adopt firm and serious measures against corruption in all its forms. Corruption has long been an intricate problem plaguing the nations of the world at times plunging others into the abyss of economic decadence whilst other nations have to pay heavy prices for it in the form of conflict.

It is against this backdrop that the need for creating a corrupt-free or, worse-still, a less corrupt society, could not be stressed enough and should be everybody’s preoccupation.

Therefore, if reports that some senior officials of some institutions are receiving high-profile kickbacks for just impressing on business outfits to inflate the price of anything ordered on behalf of their institutions is anything to go by, then efforts must be made to curb the nefarious practice. Imagine paying D70,000 for an order that was placed at D20,000? It is incredible and those ‘engaged’ in the practice should desist from it for the attainment of our collective interest. This is all the more reason the media and other relevant outfits need to pull their socks up and raise their antennae to blow whistle on anybody suspected of feathering his/her nest through public fund.
