Wednesday 17th January 2007

By Bajen Camara

Friends of The Gambia, a philanthropic organisation based in the USA, yesterday donated ten computers to the University of The Gambia at a ceremony held on the university campus in Kanifing.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Secretary of State for Education, Fatou Lamin Faye, said she was happy to receive the computers, adding that they would be used wisely.

For his part, Mr Gumbo Ali Touray, the Chairperson of the International Committee at the UTG, gave a brief history of the link between the UTG and Friends of The Gambia.

He commended Professor Lamin Sanneh of Yele University and Christen Grey Johnson, Gambia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, for their invaluable support and assistance to the UTG.

The occasion, attended by staff and students of the university, was graced by the permanent secretary of the Department of State for Education and the director of Tertiary Education.
